Basics Class
Our Basics Class is a good place for a new student to begin working on basic skills that will serve as a firm foundation on which to build further study.
Instruction in ukemi, the art of falling, is part of the Basics class curriculum. View the ukemi practices on the Basics - Ukemi page.
For more advanced students, the class enhances understanding of the fundamental principles underlying all Aikido techniques.
Class Date & Time
The Basics class is held on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Class Structure
In the basic class, techniques are broken down into their basic components and are performed:
-
One step at a time
-
With minimum use of power
This pace of practice ensures adequate safety for beginning students and allows the advanced students to grasp the essence of the techniques and their underlying principles.
The focus of the Basics class is on technique taught in a step-by-step method and practiced slowly. The class is for both new and experienced students.
New students are welcome at any class in addition to the Basics class. Senior students will work with new students on an individual basis under the direction of the instructor to help them practice in a safe, controlled fashion.
