Xinyi, Taiji and Bagua Internal Strength Applications
Sunday mornings from 7:00 - 8:30am
Available to all. $60/mo. Free trial class.
Aikido Institute students are invited to try out 2 free classes.
This is a group that emphasizes using moving and partner assisted training methods from Chen style Taijiquan and Xinyi Dao as a foundation for applications. Training will revolve around solo and partner methods that develop, test and apply internal strength which are the foundation for Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang and Aikido. Basic line drills, partner training and short forms will be introduced from Xinyi, Bagua and Chen Taijiquan to deepen student's understanding of how to exercise internal strength to promote strength, agility, vitality and self-defense.
This class is intended to be taken after the material in the "Taiji, Xingyi, Bagua foundational health & strength exercises" has been trained appropriately.
Shifu Stephen Chan
My main interests are in understanding the Internal Strength training of Chinese martial arts such as Taijiquan, Xingyiquan and Baguazhang. I spent most of the 90's practicing Chen Taijiquan, and was certified in 1997 as an instructor by master Chen Qingzhou in Chen Taijiquan. He certified me to teach the Chen Taijiquan first (slow) form, spear/staff and short staff. I later became a disciple of Master Li Tailiang, a master of Xinyi, Xingyi and Bagua and professional kickboxing and special police instructor. I am a certified instructor in his system, specializing in the internal strength training from Xinyi and Bagua.

The dojo is in the process of developing a yoga program for its members and for others in the community. Currently, we offer this once-a-week class on Sunday mornings. Led by dojo member Simona Balan, the Sunday morning yoga classes are designed for martial artists, in that they are focused on core strengthening and may incorporate Pilates and other exercises in addition to stretching.
