Training will revolve around solo and partner methods that develop, test and apply internal strength which is the foundation for Taijiquan, Xingyi and Bagua. This class systematically focuses on developing what is called "dantian" power in Chinese martial arts (analogous to "kokyu-ryoku" in Japanese martial arts) as the primary goal, instead of emphasizing techniques, forms or applications. It is traditionally believed in Chinese martial arts that dantian training promotes strength, vitality and healing in daily life, especially as martial artists become older. After a basic foundation of dantian skills are established, line drills, partner practice and short forms will be introduced as a vehicle for further dantian training. INSTRUCTORShifu Stephen Chan
My main interests are in understanding the Internal Strength training of Chinese martial arts such as Taijiquan, Xingyiquan and Baguazhang. I spent most of the 90's practicing Chen Taijiquan, and was certified in 1997 as an instructor by master Chen Qingzhou in Chen Taijiquan. He certified me to teach the Chen Taijiquan first (slow) form, spear/staff and short staff. I later became a disciple of Master Li Tailiang, a master of Xinyi, Xingyi and Bagua and professional kickboxing and special police instructor. I am a certified instructor in his system, specializing in the internal strength training from Xinyi and Bagua. |
