HANMI PIVOT / 180-DEGREE
From Hanmi stance, pivot both feet 180 degrees from the balls of the feet, or by lightly picking up and hovering the feet. Repeat: IRIMI 1 / ENTRY
Both feet move forward. To make it an exercise you can do for a few minutes, pivot both feet 180, and repeat: IRIMI 2 / ENTRY + PIVOT
Move both feet forward AND turn them together 180 at the same time. Repeat: TENKAN 1 / ONE-FOOT PIVOT Pivot 180 on the front foot; back foot draws a half circle going behind. To make it an exercise you can do for a few minutes, switch the forward foot, and repeat: *The front leg rotates to the inside (from the hip socket), heel up. Notice that the front pivoting foot adjusts and aligns at the end - that is okay.
TENKAN 2 / THE 'TWO-STEP'
Step forward with the back foot; do TENKAN 1 on that foot as it's landing. Do the other side. Repeat: It should also be done on a line, ensuring that you are developing a relationship to the line and the 180 turn.
Again, notice here that the front foot fixes itself at the end, Extra:
TENKAN STANCE-SWITCH EXERCISE Start in Hanmi (which by definition is on a line); switch the forward foot; repeat. Gradually bring the heel out wider and wider until you're doing TENKAN 2 ('two-step') on the perpendicular line. Gradually decrease the angle again, until you come back to the first line, switching stance. Repeat. |
